Notice to all @students.udmercy.edu regarding future e-mail solutions - posted 11/16/2009.

Since March of 2009, UDM has had two e-mail solutions available to students. A legacy system called @students.udmercy.edu running on the Communigate software that has served the student population for the past 10 years and a fully integrated TitanConnect (TC) portal e-mail solution that was made available to new UDM students for the current academic year beginning in March of 2009.

The new TC portal e-mail solution provides students a single sign-on location to access their e-mail as well as conduct University business. In the past, students had to manage an @students.udmercy.edu account as well as a Weblink account. TC also includes personal and group calendaring solutions, Facebook like groups, online bill review and payment opportunities, online access to Financial Aid information, a myriad of news feeds, a variety of entertainment channels and much, much more. The new e-mail system provides 100M of storage which is four times greater than the legacy e-mail system.

The legacy @students.udmercy.edu system has reached its end-of-life and will be retired in early 2010 and all students will use the newer TC portal e-mail solution. With the new TC portal e-mail solution, students will be granted a new @udmercy.edu address identical to the @students.udmercy.edu address.

The ITS-Enterprise Applications team has authored a process that will allow students to "marry" their legacy account to their new TC portal e-mail account. The "marriage" of the two accounts will ensure messages sent to a student's @students.udmercy.edu account or to an @udmercy.edu land in the exact same inbox.

Students who only have and use a TC portal email account need not perform the "marrying" process.

An email communication and hyperlink pertaining to the marrying process will be sent to all students before the US Thanksgiving Holidays.

Students with @students.udmercy.edu legacy accounts may want to do one of two things when the time comes.
1. Abandon all e-mail in their @students.udmercy.edu and start fresh in the TC portal e-mail account.
2. Transfer some or all contacts and messages to the TC portal e-mail account.

If your direction is 1 (a fresh start), all you will need to do is complete the one-time marrying process and you will be all set.

If your direction is 2 (carrying over legacy information), you will need to "marry" your accounts and then use Communigate's Redirect command to move any messages you desire to transfer over. Detailed instructions will be provided on this process and several open demonstrations will also be hosted on campus as well.

If you have any questions about this process, please feel free to contact the Helpdesk or attend one of the open sessions. If you would feel more comfortable performing this task with the Helpdesk staff standing by, please visit the Helpdesk on the McNichols campus in the Fisher building, room 230.

Please be advised if you are an active poster to a listserv that has been subscribed to under an @students.udmercy.edu address, you may be required to update or re-subscribe to that list for postings to go through. If you lurk on the lists and don't post, the messages sent from the listserver to you will continue to flow into your new Inbox.
